How to send a CV that reads well
We want your CV to arrive whole and clear. These few steps make your file easy to read, for you and for the employer, so nothing about you gets lost.
Do
- Send a text file Export your CV from Word or your document editor as a PDF or Word file. Digital text reads accurately; a screenshot or photo does not.
- Use clear headings Use simple headings like Experience, Education, Skills, Languages. Clear headings help your details land in the right place.
- List skills and languages plainly Write your skills and languages as plain text (e.g. Arabic: native, English: good). Avoid putting them inside images or logos.
- Keep the formatting simple One column of plain text reads better than complex tables, multiple columns, or text boxes. Simple formatting reads more reliably.
Avoid
- Don't send a photo or screenshot of your CV.
- Don't send a scan of a printed page. It's an image, not text.
- Don't place your key details inside an image or logo.
- Don't hide contact details in a header or footer as an image.
What we can read, and what to expect
Send the file you have. We never turn an application away over its format. This is simply what each kind of file usually gives us, so the result does not surprise you.
- A PDF or Word file exported from a document editor
- Read in full. Your roles, dates, education and skills arrive as you wrote them.
- A scan or a photo of a printed page
- We cannot read any text out of an image. You can still apply, and we will ask you to type the key details instead.
- A CV laid out in two columns
- Usually read, though a date and the job it belongs to can drift apart. Check your roles on your profile afterwards.
- A CV built out of tables or text boxes
- Often read out of order, so a role can lose its employer or its end date.
- A CV with no headings such as Experience or Education
- Read, and those rows are marked for you to confirm, because the document never said what they were.
Whatever the file, your profile shows exactly what we read and what is still missing, and you can correct any of it in one place.
Accepted formats
Text-based PDF · Word (.doc / .docx) · plain text (.txt). Maximum size 10 MB.
Why this matters
When your CV is text and clear, every detail arrives as written (your skills, experience and languages), so it's reviewed fairly. A photo or scan can hide half of it.
Ready? Head back to the application and attach your text file. Good luck.
